Construction products (CPR) (EU) 2024/3110

The product passport sits in Chapter X, Articles 75 to 80, and refers to Articles 12 to 14 of ESPR for the registry. The regulation itself applies from 8 January 2026, but the passport obligation starts 18 months after the delegated act under Article 75(1), which does not yet exist.

The date shown is when the regulation applies, not the passport deadline. That remains unknown until the delegated act is adopted.

EU Digital Product Passport Registry (EU) 2026/1778

Not a product obligation but infrastructure. It governs access management, user verification, data registration and storage, and the technical architecture of the registry. Its Article 1(1) is the official map of every regime introducing a product passport.

Deforestation (EUDR) (EU) 2023/1115

No passport, but a due diligence statement with mandatory content under Article 4(2) and Annex II. The evidence task is closely related: data must be obtained from suppliers and demonstrated on request.

For micro and small enterprises the date is 30 June 2027. Dates stem from amendment (EU) 2025/2650.

Batteries and waste batteries (EU) 2023/1542

The only product-passport regime with an absolute date written directly into the legal text, not conditioned on a delegated act. Article 77 requires an electronic record for every LMT battery, every industrial battery above 2 kWh and every electric vehicle battery. From the same date, Article 13(6) requires every battery to carry a QR code.

Note two intermediate Commission deadlines: by 18 August 2025 it was to adopt the implementing act on labelling specifications (Article 13(10)), and by 18 August 2026 the act specifying who counts as a person with a legitimate interest and to which data they have access (Article 77(9)). We have not verified the status of either at source, so we do not present them as adopted.

End-of-life vehicles (ELV) (EU) 2026/1738

Introduces a vehicle circularity passport, and Article 13 explicitly requires it to integrate with the battery passport under Article 77. The battery passport is therefore not a dead end but a hub that later regimes attach to.

The regulation applies from 1 September 2028; the vehicle circularity passport from 1 September 2032.

Ecodesign framework (ESPR) (EU) 2024/1781

The umbrella framework that introduces the product passport in Articles 9 to 15. It binds no product group on its own — the obligation arises only through a delegated act per group, and Article 4(4) requires at least 18 months between that act entering into force and the obligation applying.

No delegated act under Article 4 had been adopted when this page was prepared. Dates circulating online for textiles, steel and aluminium come from the Commission's indicative plan, not from law.
